Dracula: Gloomy retelling of the Bram Stoker classic, with Langella's esteemed Broadway characterization lost among hip terror gimmicks and ill-imagined changes in the original tale. The movie was filmed in England. Cast includes Blunt Langella, Laurence Olivier, Donald Pleasence, Kate Nelligan, Trevor Eve, Diane Duvitski, and Tony Haygarth. (109 minutes, 1958)

The Defiant: A preoccupying tale of 2 escaped convicts, one black and one white who are chained together as they escape from prison in the South. Fine performances by Williams and Chaney as individuals they meet during the voyage. Academy Prize for screenplay by Harold Jacob Smith and Nathan E. Cast includes Tony Curtis, Sidney Poitier, Theodore Bike, Charles McGraw, Carnie Williams, and Lon Chaney, Jr. (97 minutes, 1958)

Red Tomahawk: Commander Keel saves the town from the Sioux Indians in this Western film with lots of likable actors in the cast. Cast includes Howard Keel, Joan Caulfield, Broderick Crawford, Scott Brady, Wendell Corey, Richard Arlen, and Donald Barry. (82 minutes, 1967)

Star Trek: Nemesis: The Romulans have a new leader in power. Since they are the closest starship in the area, the Enterprise is sent to the neutral zone to speak with Preator, the new Romulan leader. He has told the Federation he wants a peace treaty. When the Enterprise arrives they find themselves in the middle of a situation that could lead to the destruction of Earth.

Today LCD TVs are the most popular television sets on the market - LCD stands for liquid crystal display. Manufacturers use LCD technology to produce television sets with images in color. A differentiating factor for LCD TVs is that they weigh less and are thinner compared to other televisions on the market which are of similar sizes. LCD televisions can also scale to much larger sizes than their competition. As the prices to create the LCD units have dropped, they have quickly become the number one choice in the marketplace.

LCDs were not always the most popular television choice - far from it! It was only in 2007 that they became the number one option as its sales surpassed its competition. LCDs were first invented in the 1980s but were not meant for TV - they were built to produce portable computers. At the time they were also competing with another new technology - plasma televisions. Since LCDs had an extremely slow refresh rate the screens were often blurry but they were lighter and cheaper than the competition.

Because the refresh rates were very slow, the early LCDs could not be used for televisions. At the time, however, the market was not asking for upgrades to television technology so there was no demand for LCD TVs. When new inventions like Super VHS and DVDs came its demand increased but it was still hard to find anyone with an LDC over 30 inches wide.

Companies didn't stop innovating and in 1998 Sharp created the first LCD that was meant for television. It was only 14 inches wide! Most people couldn't afford it and it was only sold to wealthier people who wanted the latest toy available. At this time plasma continued making advances and quickly became a technology that people were willing to purchase. LCDs were trailing far behind.

Not wanting to lose out on a major opportunity, the LCD manufacturers put even more money into developing their technology and continued to produce television sets that slowly got bigger than the original 14 inches. By 2004, it was common to see a 32 inch LCD TV in many homes and people were starting to pick up 42 inch versions as well. Also in the development pipeline were much larger models to keep customers happy.

By 2006 the prices started to fall dramatically for LCD TVs. LCDs were still more expensive than plasmas, but not by much anymore. The LCD technology also provided a much better experience and was of higher quality. In 2007 LCDs were no longer priced at a premium to plasmas and it was clear that they would outsell plasmas for the critical 2007 Christmas season.

With the numbers in for the 2007 Christmas sales, it was clear that LCDs had sold more units than plasma and CRTs over the same timeframe. Because of the poor performance Sony decided that it was time to shut down its famous Trinitron brand and the manufacturing plant closed in 2008. By 2009, Pioneer Electronics also shut down their plasma screen plants.

Further innovations in LCD allowed manufacturers to create very large screens up to 50 inches as well as very small screens. No matter what your need you could find a LCD monitor to help you. In recent years, the so-called console war between Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo was probably at its fiercest level because of the launching of the original Xbox. Of course, it was designed to compete head-on with the Sony Playstation 3 popularity and the emerging consumer awareness for Nintendo's GameCube. With the launching of the Xbox successor - the Xbox 360 - the console war just reached new levels of competitiveness although it must be said that Xbox won the war for about a year after its release.

Of course, Sony and Nintendo will not take this lying down and they both released their seventh generation gaming consoles - the Playstation 3 and Wii, respectively. This time, gamers have a more difficult time choosing between the three models since each console has its own unique strengths and weaknesses. To make things easier here is a comparison between Xbox 360 and its two competitors in terms of titles, graphics and controller.

For the titles available, Xbox 360 wins hands down when it comes to the quantity of games available, with approximately a thousand choices. In fact, Xbox 360 has the most number of exclusive titles although the Playstation 3 offers more exclusive franchises. Plus, the Xbox 360 still has an edge over Playstation 3 in terms of the highest number of titles with positive ratings. Customers and critics alike even point that the adventure fighting games in Playstation 3 are very similar to those in Xbox 360.

The Wii, however, is competing in a different way, focusing its attention on family friendly games rather than violent shooters. The titles offered by the Wii are so varied it's like comparing apples and oranges. So, the battle between consoles must be taken to another front.

When you look at graphics, both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 are almost cheek to cheek. Some people still insist that the Playstation 3 has the edge with more powerful graphic and audio components than the Xbox 360, but in the end it will all come down to what you, personally, think good graphics are.

The Wii, unfortunately, cannot compete with either the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 on the graphics front. The Nintendo-manufactured gaming console does not appear to focus on this area for some reason or another. Thus, if you want excellent graphics with outstanding audio, then either the Xbox 360 or the Playstation 3 is the ideal choice. Take note, too, that Playstation 4 offers Blu-ray support, an advantage over the Xbox 360.

For controller quality, the Wii has a very good chance of winning with its motion controller which can mimic the movement of the user, with bats to swing and buttons to push. However, the Xbox 360 offers more options than the Wii, with the availability of either wired or wireless controllers.

The final verdict: The many features of Xbox 360 continue to make it the leader in the industry. However, this does not mean that the console war is over, far from it. In fact, it may be just beginning all over again. But for now, the Xbox 360 rules the field. - 23806
