Viewers embraced Ann Hathaways character Mia who starts off as a clumsy ugly-duckling but ends up discovering shes a princess and transforming into an attractive teen with help from her doting grandmother Queen Clarisse (played by Julie Andrews). The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement movie picks up the thread of Mias life close to six years on with her graduating from college in America and going back to Genovia. Her alternate choice of husband is an Englishman (portrayed by Callum Blue), who though suitable in every way isnt the one who speeds up her heart beat. Mia is forced to choose between her heart and her country.

Both Anne Hathaway as Mia and Julie Andrews as Queen Clarisse continue to mesmerize and entertain the audience thoroughly. The rest of the cast as well as director Gary Marshall strive to make a film thats good fun if devoid of lasting life influencing philosophy. Its a great movie for easing the stress of reality and allowing you to get lost in the romantic world of Genovia for a short while.

The movie is good for women and men of all ages especially die-hard romantics, though young men might find it difficult to accept that fact publicly. Parents need not worry about children developing the idea of a princess whos weak and needs to be rescued from distressing situations. Mia portrays a modern princess whos independent and decisive.
