Reviews and Film Downloads

By Addibischoff Okada

The following paragraphs contain some nice movie reviews. To find movie downloads do a search. A good starting point might be "Burn DVDs", after that try "Hollywood Movie Rentals" or "Downloadable Movie".

A Scandal in Paris: Fashionable 8th century tale based on the recollections of the infamous Frenchman Eugene Vidocq, whose life of crime comes to a crossroads while he confronts a youthful lady who cherishes him. The clever script was tailor-made for Sanders. Cast includes George Sanders, Carole Landis, Akim Tarniroff, Signe Hasso, Gene Lockhart, Alan Napier, and Alma Kruger. (106 minutes, 1946)

The Guyver: All-American Armstrong, contaminated by an extraterrestrial device, finds that he is an armored superhero, an excellent thing, as long as virtually everyone else in the film might turn into a frightening beast, like CIA representative Hamill, who turns into a large cockroach. Awkward clumps of humor only make the contrived structure appear even more mindless. (92 minutes, 1992)

The Search: Poignant drama of American cadet Clift regarding for concentration camp survivor Jandl in postwar Berlin, when the boy's mommy despondently searches all the camps for him. Beautifully performed and directed. Cast includes Montgomery Clift, Ivan Jandl, Aline MacMahon, Jarmila Novotna, and Wendell Corey. (105 minutes, 1948)

The Red Violin: Multi-episode film follows the destiny of a hexed violin from 17th-century Italy to 18th century Vienna, 19th century England, 20th-century China and present day Montreal. The tales are mainly downbeat and or aggravating, and the finish up part with appraiser Jackson is difficult to swallow. Colorful locales and enthralling premises sustain limited interest all the way through. Cast includes Carlo Cecchi, Irene Grazioli, Jean-Luc Bideau, Jason Flemyng, Greta Scacchi, Sylvia Chang, Samuel L. Jackson, Colm Feore, Monique Mercure, Don McKellar, and Sandra Oh. (131 minutes, 1998)

It's the Rage: The lives of a group of seemingly distinct individuals are connected by personal problems which lead to resolutions with guns. This loud satire of individual and cultural brutality gets worse as it goes along, regardless of the attempts of an excellent cast. Cast includes Joan Allen, Jeff Daniels, Andre Braugher, Gary Sinise, Josh Brolin, Robert Forster, and Anna Paquin. (97 minutes, 2000)

Ed Television: Amusing yam in reference to a despondent cable Television network that plans to televise a normal man's life for every waking minute of the day and turn the meager sap into an overnight star. Cast includes Matthew McConaughey, Jenna Elfman, Woody Harrelson, Sally Kirkland, Martin Landau, Ellen DeGeneres, Rob Reiner, and Dennis Hopper. (133 minutes, 1999)

Nutcracker the Motion Picture: Much of this rendition of The Nutcracker, acted by the Pacific Notthwest Ballet, is like a music video with rapid cutting and close-ups of legs, faces, and elbows. This is extremely irritating. However the Tchaikovsky music is, obviously, amazing, as are Maurice Sendak's sets and costumes. Cast includes Hugh Bigney, Vanessa Acute" Patricia Barker, Plod Walthall, Russell Burnett, and the voice of Julie Harris. (89 minutes, 1986)

On Golden Pond: Fonda, in his last film, is no less than radiant as crochety retired professor Norman Thayer, Jr., furious at being 80 years old and frightened of losing his mind. Hepburn is fine as his committed, all knowing spouse who shares his summers at Maine lakefront home. Jane is his disassociated daughter. Cast includes Katharine Hepburn, Henry Fonda, Jane Fonda, Doug McKeon, Dabney Coleman, and William Lanteau. (1009minutes, 1981)

Primal Fear: Hotshot Chicago lawyer defends an altar boy implicated of fiercely killing a much loved archbishop even albeit all proof appears to point to the youthful gentleman's guilt. Gere gives a powerful performance in one of his best roles, as a arrogant barrister who, for once, dloesn't have all the facts straight. Newcomer Norton is additionally very impressive. Film loses some of its impact by going on too long and by following unconnected tale facets. Richard Gere, Laura Linney, John Mahoney, Alfre Woodard, Frances McDormand, Edward Norton, Terry O'Quinn, Andre Braugher, Steven Bauer, Joe Spanq, Tony Plana, Stanley Anderson, Maura Tierney, and Jon Seda. (129 minutes, 1996)

The Terminator Movies

By Patrick Daniels

Well, with all of the excitement building for next months release of the next chapter in the Terminator saga, I thought that it might be a good time to review the other three movies in the series.

The first movie simply titled The Terminator was released in 1984 and almost immediately became a blockbuster hit. It stood out from the pack with its over the top special effects and its time traveling story. It was a huge success and spawned two, and now three sequels as well as a television show on Fox. The first movie was released on VHS and later on DVD. It included a minimal amount of bonus features on its initial DVD release, but would later be re-released as a special addition.

In 1991, the sequel, T2: Judgment Day was released in theatres. Surpassing the first movie, it was an instant hit breaking box office records. It maintained all the greatness from the first movie and expanded on the Terminators lore.

In T2 Arnold is still a Terminator, but as John Connor's guardian. When the rumors came out I couldn't believe it, they had changed what everyone was expecting. However, the special effects far surpassed the first movie and the things we saw were unlike anything seen before. It was a technological breakthrough and has become standard practice since. The DVD, packaged in a metallic collector's sleeve, was full of history and special features, that we have now come to expect.

Ten years later, Rise of The Machines was released. It was considered a flop, by Terminator standards. However, with almost $400 million is ticket sales, it would have been considered a huge success for any other franchise. The DVD, was just as great as the first two releases, full of extras. i am positive that a special Blu-ray version of the first three movies, will be on the way soon.

Let's just hope that the newest movie will bring back the Franchise glory. - 23806
