Compare Full High Definition Televisions

By John Smith

With the introduction of digital television (DTV) has come the High Definition Television Revolution. Full HD TV is the pinnacle of the home television experience. But what is required to enjoy the maximum benefits on offer? And what choices are there to be made when purchasing a Full HD TV.

Not all high definition televisions are what can be called full HD TV. A HD ready TV for example usually meets the 720p spec. 720p televisions have a better picture quality than standard definition television but are not the best quality available. They are perfectly suitable where a smaller screen size is required, but when it comes to larger screens (eg a 42 inch LCD and upwards), then a 1080p is the standard that you should be looking to.

Televisions come in many variations, the first thing to consider is what type of television technology to choose. The different type of technologies to choose from include plasma, LCD and LED TVs. To make this decision then you will need to know a little about the qualities of each type.

The prestige HD televisions are considered to be plasma HD TVs. This is because of the ability of plasma TVs to reproduce life-like colours and the greatest contrasts when compared to its competitors. They are also better at displaying fast moving pictures. The negatives with plasma TVs are they less eco-friendly and due to the larger size of screens are heavier and cost more.

The market leader up to this point has been LCD TVs. When it comes down to value for money LCDs have shown to be the popular choice. The range of screen sizes available means that they can be purchased to be suitable for any location. They may not produce the best quality images but they arent far behind plasmas and they are now so cheap that one can be purchased on the smallest of budgets.

The newest of HD technologies to hit the market is the LED TV. They are not as radically different a design as the name might suggest. LED TVs still incorporate the use of LCD panels to display the picture, but where they differ is the use LEDs in the lighting of the display. Previous LCDs used fluorescent lights which have a limited lifespan and reduced performance over time. LEDs have improved upon these deficiencies along with other inherent benefits. LEDs have better colour reproduction, energy-efficiency, and slimmer designs than their LCD equivalent models.

OLED and 3D televisions are something you may be starting to become aware of. Neither can be realistically considered as option when purchasing a new television as there are only limited options out there. They are however sure to be making a big impact in the future.

To make the most of the money you have to spend you should make sure you know your own requirements before purchasing a new Full HD TV. Narrow your options down and possibly use other consumers reviews to make your final decision on buying a Full HD Television. - 23806

UFC 85 Flashback: Alves Dominates Hughes

By Ross Everett

A day after failing to make weight for his fight against Matt Hughes, Thiago Alves dominated the former UFC welterweight champion en route to a 2nd round TKO victory. The main event at UFC 85 in London was somewhat anticlimactic to the fans at the O2 Arena who considered the semifinal matchup between Manchesters Michael Bisping and Jason Day the biggest fight on the card. Bisping actually improved upon his excellent showing against Charles McCarthy at UFC 83 and pummeled Day mercilessly from the top mount position until the fight was stopped just past the 3 minute mark of the first round.

Hughes didnt make any excuses following his one sided loss, saying simply that hes a good fighter and he got me. The longtime king of the UFCs welterweight division also gave notice that his career as an active fighter was drawing to a close, suggesting that he had one fight left and challenging Matt Serra in what presumably would be his retirement match.

The end came early in the 2nd round as Hughes was caught coming in by a devastating knee strike. He fell to the canvas in a heap and referee Herb Dean was jumping in to stop the contest before Alves could follow up with any punches. As the ringside physician entered the ring to check on the fallen fighter, Hughes gave an indication that his knee was injured.

Michael Bisping simply overwhelmed Jason Day en route to a lopsided TKO victory. Bisping built upon the improved boxing skills he demonstrated at UFC 83 by unveiling an impressive ground and pound attack. Day never really got anything going and by the last minute of the fight was simply trying to cover up to prevent damage from Bispings elbows and hammer fists. Between his move down to the middleweight division and his improved technical striking skills, Bisping looks like a different fighter. His post UFC 83 suggestion that he wanted a fight with Anderson Silva seemed premature at the time, but following another devastating performance its starting to look much more realistic.

In other action, Mike Swick used an array of high kicks and a 7 reach advantage to coast to a unanimous decision over Marcus Davis. Davis, a former professional boxer, was unable to get inside against his lanky opponent and was never really in the fight. Like Bisping, Swick may have made an excellent career choice by moving down in weight.

A controversial point deduction for a strike to the back of the head cost Nate Marquardt his match against Thales Leites. Marquardt was solidly in charge for the entire fight, but suffered a point deduction for an illegal knee strike in round one. While that infraction was valid, replays of the 2nd round deduction for the strike to the back of the head gave the impression that he was penalized for a legal strike to the side of the head.

In the opening PPV match, another controversial ending saw Fabrico Werdum defeat Brandon Vera by 1st round KO. The fight had been evenly contested up until the stoppage, with Werdum scoring a couple of takedown and Vera countering with some effective punching. Late in the first round, Werdum got a full mount and began to fire a series of punches. Vera was clearly defending himself and didnt appear to be hurt at all when the referee jumped in to stop the fight. Vera said that hed answered that he was OK when asked by ref Dan Miragliotta and that he was just trying to ride out the round from that position. Mirgliotta was also the referee in the Kimbo Slice/James Thompson fight, and some have suggested that matchup was also stopped prematurely. - 23806

Tropic Thunder: Desperate to get more out of his spoiled actors, while filming an epic war Vietnam War film, director Damien Cockburn makes a bold move. He litters the jungle with cameras, plans some diversions, and throws the actors in the jungle on their own to fend for themselves. They think it's only a movie, but soon the bullets coming at the actors are real.

Prospero's Books: At first challenging although unsatisfactory adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest, with most of the dialog mentioned by 87-year-old Gielgud (in the role of Prospero); the other performers are little more than an add on, and there's a mind boggling amount of nudity. The film is stuffed with shocking, layered imagery, attractive production layout and cinematography. Pleasure can rely on your patience for Greenaway's approach to the material. Cast includes John Gielgud, Michael Clark, Michel Blanc, Isabelle Pasco, and Tom Bell. (129 minutes,'91)

The Three Muskateers: Musketeers Athos, Porthos, and Aramis join young D'Artagnan in an attempt to stop Cardinal Richelieu, who is plotting to form an alliance with the English. When math professor Skarsgiird gets wind of this, he demands that the youthful guy halt trashing his abilities, and sends him to a psychologist! Cast includes Matt Damon, Robin Williams, Ben Affleck,Minnie Driver, SteIlan Skarsgiird, Casey Affleck, and Cole Hauser. (126 minutes,'97)

Any good Twilight fan worth their salt is good at Twilight trivia. A good party game is to have a trivia game like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Have prizes for winners who prove to be adept at knowing about all things Twilight. You can also use other game show formats that may be more fitting for your guests.

In the series vampires are known to movie at superhuman speeds. Unfortunately many people can't do that. You can imitate it though with a game of flashlight tag. You can make the game interesting by having guests split up in groups. You can also try a flashlight tag version of capture the flag. This will give you some very fun ways to imitate vampires.

Another game you can play is Truth or Dare. In New Moon we find out that Jacob is part of tribe of werewolves. One of their interesting traits is that everyone can share each other's minds constantly so everyone knows each other's deepest secrets. So play a game of truth of dare with questions based off of similar situations in New Moon and Twilight. This will prove to be an interesting game as you see how much of their secrets they are willing to share.

Vampires also have a keen sense of hearing and an awareness of their surroundings. Another great game idea is to play Twilight red light green light. Pick someone as the individual who will call out red light and green light. Just like a traffic signal, the caller say green light everyone else playing can move towards him. If the caller calls red light then the players have to freeze in position and stay that way. Otherwise, they will be disqualified. The twist lies in that the caller is blindfolded and must rely on hearing and other senses to be know when players are approaching. The first person to reach the caller will be the winner.

You can also look to more traditional games like Bingo. Have Bingo cards made with images of characters in the movie. Then have an old fashioned game of bingo. The first person to get all five characters in a row and call out Bingo will be the winner. This is just one of many simple Twilight games that you can play at your party.

You will find many of the suggested games to be great ways to entertain friends and make your party a more likely success. - 23806

A Few Helpful Motion Picture Plot Lines To View

What will her fate be?

Belizaire the Cajun: Assante is well cast as a charismatic drug dealer in love with a Cajun woman who is the spouse of a prosperous Englishman. Black Narcissus: Visually sumptuous, dramatically charged film, from a Godden novel. Nuns are trying to develop a mission in a remote Himalayan outpost among difficult visible and spiritual tests. His confrontation with Smith will decide the fate of both civilizations, and his true destiny.

Seizure: Rock's directorial debut is trendy although incoherent shocker in which novelist Frid, his family and buddies are made to play games of death by a trio of wicked weirdos who may or may not be his bad dreams coming to life. Cast includes Jonathan Frid, Martine Beswick, Christina Pickles, Joe Sirola, Herve Villechaize, Mary Woronov, and Troy Donahue. (93 minutes,'74)

Stagecoach: One of the best American films, and a landmark in the aging of the Western. This is the film that launched John Wayne to authentic stardom. Mitchell won an Oscar as the intoxicated physician, as did the music score. Script by Dudley Nichos, from Ernest Haycox's tale "Level to Lordsburg" whose plot is comparable to Man de Maupassant's Boule de Suif. Cast includes Claire Trevor, John Wayne, Andy Devine, John Carradine, Thomas Mitchell, Tim Holt, Tom Tyer, and Jack Pennick. (96 minutes,'39)

Unbreakable: Elijah Price has lived his whole life with a horrible bone condition. His bones are so weak that they shatter with the slightest jolt.
