Maritime History Documentary Different Time Periods

By Arina Rentuzi

If you are interested in history then this Maritime History documentary should be interesting for you. Please read on to learn more about this wonderful area of history. General Information: Today's modern ships are molded from composite plastic materials however this way of craftsman's ship was only introduced in the earlier part in the 20th century. Even the Aluminum boats were not't developed until one hundred and sixteen years ago. If you look further back into at this maritime history documentary, boats have had a drastic change of course of human history.

The earliest sea worthy vessels were presumed to be a dugout canoe by various stone age populations used for coastal fishing and travel. A large tree was cut down using primitive tools and hollowed out forming the hull. It was the Indigenous from the Pacific Northwest that constructed dugout canoes over sixty feet long for everyday use and ceremonial purposes. The Hawaiian, Tongans, Samoans used various forms of wood for their sea travel usually hulling out two tree trucks and tying them together.

Another story is that the Spanish tried to capture her ship. When they got on board they dropped their weapons as soon as they saw her. She being in her sixties while in her night gown scars from her youth plainly visible with a pistol in one hand and a sword in the other. She died in 1603.

Boats were developed with new techniques during the historical maritime years. They were developed gradually from modified dugouts that were created from the bronze age. Egyptian boats displayed log constructed techniques where short planks or balks of timber were bolted from each edge making up the hull. Framing and planking were the most basic forms that made up wooden boats.

Ships and boats were extremely important and the way they were made was equally so. The way the frame was used to provide support and stiffen all the other parts of the boat was significant for fishermen. The planking was the outside shell of the boat that is fastened to the framing. It was the Scandinavian people that invented Lapstraking or overlapping during the 9th century. Maritime history is the wide overarching area that involves fishing, whaling, overseas maritime legislation, naval history, shipping history, ship making, historical navigation and all other areas of sea exploration. It covers all areas of the sea and the way boats were constructed as well as how fishermen began trading.

Sails were outdated by steam, soon it was steam that was superseded by diesel- driven ships in the second half of 20th century. In 1900 internal combustion engine and gas turbine replaced steam engine in most ships. Trans-oceanic travel, transatlantic and trans-pacific was particularly important application with steam powered ocean liners to replace sailing ships allowing for faster travel. Which in turn culminate the massive Super liners including the RMS Titanic.

Soon it was plywood that was used in making of a boat. Construction of plywood began in the United states in 1918. There are two variations of using plywood. Paneled. - Involves securing flat sheets of plywood to the transverse frame and to the keel as well as other units that supply longitudinal strength. In other words boats that were v shaped or flat bottomed. Molding- Temporary transverse frames or molds and longitudinal battens. Thin narrow strips of lumber need to seal and reinforce joints over which the planking is placed in 2-3 layers then stapled.

The welsh privateer ransacked the Spaniards and took the city of Panama in 1671. He was capture and was sentenced to be executed in England but was knighted and made governor of Jamaica. He died of natural causes in 1688. James Lawrence was an American Naval hero. During the war of 1812. While in commanded of the USS Chesapeake he took on in a single ship battle against the HMS Shannon. He is mostly known for his dying command 'Don't give up the ship!' Which is still a popular naval battle cry. - 23806

TVs And How Popular They Have Become

By Milrika Ekilski

As a novelty on the market, it was once said that TVs would never become a popular item. However, the years have proven this to be a fallacy. Technological growth and steadily falling prices have placed them in even greater demand. As a matter of fact, it is hard, now, to find a home without at least one. Many people could not imagine living without the presence of a 'boob tube.'

Regardless of what you use them for, they are a prominent staple in most homes. The types available have also continued to change with the times. Technological advances have taken us from simple, small black and white sets to incredible modern devices. You can now pick from among many large, flat-screen models, such as LCDs and Plasmas.

People once had to crowd around, trying to make out a blurry picture on a very tiny screen. Thanks to high definition technology, this is no longer an issue. Even the tiniest details show up in stark relief. Even the fastest on-screen action remains completely viewable with no hesitation. They are great for anyone who enjoys watching fast-action sporting events.

Cinema fanatics can even recreate a theater experience in the comfort of their own homes. Good speakers, with surround sound let them catch every subtle ambiance. They can easily avoid paying those high ticket prices and the savings really adds up. Whether watching a show or the newest DVD, they will never miss a single nuance.

There are now so many options to choose from, that everyone can find a set they can afford. You can find quality models that will not empty your wallet, but still perform exactly as expected. Many stores also carry them, providing a wide variety of choices. You can find them in department stores and specialty retailers.

As new items, many years ago, few people could even hope to afford one. Finding more than one in anyone's home was just a dream. Thankfully, time has changed this and you can usually find at least one set in most homes. Many people own several, keeping them in various rooms of their house, even in their bedroom.

Regardless of how you use them, be it watching the news, a movie or an action packed game, you can find a set you will love. Take a look at all the options available and buy the one that suits your taste and needs. With price so low, you might even find yourself buying several different TVs. - 23806

NY Bar Brawl

By L.J. James

It was a quite day in a small Bar in upstate New York . The girl working behind the bar was young, she had just turned twenty one and had only been bar tending a few weeks, this was her first time working alone. Everything was going fine with only two of the regulars in the back shooting pool it was nothing she could not handle she thought to herself.

Then the front door opened and in walked ten of the biggest men she had ever seen. They talked loudly and as they walked over to the far side of the bar, She got a look at the back of their jackets. She could easily see that the markings on them where all the same. The men ordered pitchers of beer and their talking only got louder as they drank more and talked about things she did not understand. Then the men went quite as the front door opened and in walked seven more large men, at first she thought these seven men where with the first Ten as they looked and dressed similar but as she looked at the markings on the backs of these new comers Jackets she could tell while they where similar the markings where different, By the way the two groups where looking at each other she guessed the difference must mean a lot to them.

The Seven men sat up toward the front of the bar and also ordered pitchers of beer. The young girl did her best to make sure both groups where kept happy, but it was just a matter of time and Beer! When one of the men from the first group called out to her, "Hey Honey don't worry about those guys, there losers! Come over here and hang with some real men." That was all it took, the fuse was lit. "Who you calling losers pal we are good enough to beat you any day of the week!" Yelled back a guy from the second group. "You may think your as good as us but you never will be!" Yelled back a man from the first group.

Then in what was a blur to our young barmaid a fight broke out between the two groups it was loud and she could hear glass and wood breaking all around her as the men cursed and screamed at each other. This young Girl was scared and she feared for her life.

Her fear abated a little when in the distance she heard sirens. The police are coming, she thought to herself as she hid behind the bar. The police arrived in force and they stormed in arresting the men and taking them away. When things got quite and all the men where taken away the young girl looked around the small bar. So much damage she thought to herself, She looked at one of the officers and asked how did you know to come here. We got a call that these two groups where both heading to this bar and we just knew, it happens all the time with these type of guys!!!

Epilogue: The next morning when the young barmaid awoke she walked down stairs to the kitchen where her father was reading the morning paper. Does it say anything about the fight in the bar yesterday she asked her father? Yes he said as he pointed to a small article in the back of the paper "Yankees and Mets fans Brawl it out in small town bar" the story went on to explain how all the men where given tickets for disorderly conduct and released. That's it she screamed at her father these men trash the bar, scare the hell out of me, They should all be in jail and all they get is Tickets!!! Calm down sweetheart her father said as he hugged her, The way your acting one would think it had been a bunch of rowdy Bikers in the bar yesterday! Those Guys would have been locked away, But it was only Sports fans!

Learn How to Play Drums DVD: Study With The Best Teachers In The World

By Antwan Anderson

The "next day" came, and soon it was my turn to see how fast I could play. I did my best and was completely shocked when I ended up winning with a "score" of 905 singles in 60-seconds (with absolutely no practice, and no idea "how or what" I was doing). Nevertheless, winning put me in the northeast regional finals elimination round - 3 weeks later at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Sometimes the drum heads may even puncture when the hit is hard. If all this still does not provide you with good reasons to go for a new one at regular intervals, then you should realize that once it becomes weak it is difficult for you to play the roll or the fast chops. As a drummer you should change your drum heads after every six months.

Use a can of compressed air to get the dust out of those hard to reach places like in-between lugs and under the foot pedals of your drums.

Some would say that it's a secondary rhythm section (second line) that answers the calls of a "first-line" rhythm section in a New Orleans Mardi Gras parade. The first line would play a rhythm and the "second line" would respond to it, others will tell you that it's just something that comes from New Orleans music and involves a marching snare rhythm: They'll admit that they don't know where it comes from but they're quick to show you an example of how they think it's played.

Play "heel up" on the bass drum for more power and speed. The heel down bass drum technique will work but requires a bit more effort. Also, it's easier to play heel up technique with quick drum fills.

Many drummers are missing an essential skill. They have great hand speed as well as good control, but they have trouble mastering the bass drum. Most probably work on their bass drum skills occasionally but never get to the point where their ability needs to be. Perhaps this is because beginner drum lessons spend too little time on this skill or students just don't enjoy practicing on the bass. Either way, an important part of being a complete drummer is missing.

BUT, I did win; with a score of 956 beats in 60 seconds! It wasn't my best score up to that point, but at least I was now going to the International Fastest Drummer finals qualifications and NAMM. And I had about 2 months to practice! An important part of drum playing is relaxed breathing. A good warm-up, whether you are sitting or standing, is to take a slow, deep breath, filling the lungs with air.

Some days use your entire practice time on developing your tuning skills. You want to know each of your drum's best sound. You need to be able to hear it in you mind so when you tune a drum to that sound you will know it. - 23806

Green Bay Trounces Detroit

By Ross Everett

The Green Bay Packers didn't do a good job protecting their quarterback last Sunday, but against the lowly Detroit Lions it didn't really matter. Packers' QB Aaron Rodgers was sacked five times, but Green Bay used a big first half offensive outburst to coast to a 26-0 NFL victory over the Detroit Lions. Rodgers threw two first half touchdown passes which was complimented by four Mason Crosby field goals as Green Bay improved to 3-2 on the season. The Lions slumped to 1-5 with the loss.

NFL football betting enthusiasts who backed the Packers as -14 home dogs easily cashed their tickets with Green Bay's third pointspread cover in five games. Detroit slipped to 2-4 against the spread.

In the victory, Packers' receiver Donald Driver passed Sterling Sharpe for first place on the franchise reception list. Sharpe finished his career with 596 receptions, Driver now has 602. After the game, he talked about the accomplishment:

"It couldn't it come in a better place -- at home in front of the fans I've played in front of for so many years. It feels good. Now I just have to wait on Sterling to call me and congratulate me."

Despite the convincing victory, cornerback Tramon Williams wasn't happy with the relatively narrow margin:

"It feels like a 50 to zero game, but we didn't quite get there. I felt we should've put more points on the board."

For the Lions, their quarterback woes continued. Backup Daunte Cullpepper injured his hamstring in the third quarter and was replaced by the Lions' third string quarterback Drew Stanton. Cullpepper is now listed as 'questionable' on the official NFL injury report. After the game, he talked about Detroit's lack of offense:

"It's very disappointing, very frustrating. It's embarrassing to me not to be able to move it on the field and get points on the board. We've got to figure out a way to do that, simple as that."

The Packers will play on the road this Sunday, heading to Cleveland to face the Browns. The game is currently off the board as linemakers try to get a handle on the personnel impact of the Browns' struggle with a flu bug making its way through the locker room. Green Bay will host the Minnesota Vikings the following Sunday followed by a trip to Tampa Bay on November 8. Detroit has a bye this weekend and will return to action as they host the St. Louis Rams on November 1. They'll play their next two on the road, with games in Seattle and Minnesota. - 23806
