Airheads: 3 metal heads with toy guns reluctantly take a music station hostage because they want to get air time for their one and only demo tape. Not the most difficult subject to satirize, although the script is weak anyway. A somewhat vigorous direction and compact running time help a tad. (91 minutes, 1994)

The Lawyer: Energetic tale loosely based on the renowned Dr. Sam Sheppard murder case. Newman is a stubborn youthful barrister guarding physician implicated of killing his spouse, fighting lawful procedure and uncooperative judge. Cast includes Barry Newman, Harold Gould, Diana Muldaur, Robert Colbert, and Kathleen Crowley. (117 minutes, 1970)

The General: One of Keaton's best silent films, setting comedy contrary to real Civil War tale of a stolen train, and Union spies. Not as fanciful as other Keaton films, although beautifully finished. Cast includes Buster Keaton, Marion Mack, Glen Cavender, Jim Farley, and Joseph Keaton. (100 minutes, 1984)

The Facts of Life: An advanced comedy with Bob and Lucy leaving their partners for an interlude together. The 2 megastars make a team worth observing. Cast includes Bob Wish, Lucille Ball, Ruth Hussey, and Don DeFore. (103 minutes, 1960)

Bug: A film rendition of Tracy Letts' play is tough to take critically however not without a twist or two if you could acknowledge it as a stunt. This is simply bug versus man. Cast includes Ashley Judd, Michael Shannon, Harry Connick, Jr., Lynn Collins, and Brian F. O'Byrne. (101 minutes, 2007)

The Buddy System: A desperate kid tries to play matchmaker between his lonely mom and a grown-up buddy, would-be novelist and tool creator (Dreyfuss). Pleasantly played although excessively recognizable (and overlong) romantic comedy. Cast includes Richard Dreyfuss, Susan Sarandon, Nancy Allen, Jean Stapleton, Will Wheaton, Edward Fall, and Keene Curtis. (110 minutes, 1984)

Night Nurse: A phenomenal, hard story of nurse (Stanwyck) who couldn't disregard bizarre goings on in home where she works. Blondell adds zingy aid and it is one of Gable's most impressive early appearances. Cast includes Barbara Stanwyck, Ben Lyon, Joan Blondell, Clark Gable, Charlotte Merriam, and Charles Winninger.

Mac and Me: Sort of an E.T. copy in reference to Mac, an outer space being, and his plight in suburban L.A. It is more of a television advertisement than a film. There's a production number set in a McDonald's, and the alien lives on Coca-Cola. Cast includes Christine Ebersole, Jonathan Ward, Katrina Caspary, Lauren Stanley, and Jade Calegory. (93 minutes, 1988)

Spungen: Director Cox accomplishes a masterful level of a documentary-reality. He then laces it with metaphorical fantasy icons, with striking outcomes. At the center of the film are two incredible performances by Goldman and Webb, who don't appear to be acting at all: They are Sid and Nancy. The movie is a downer, to be certain, however captivating. (105 minutes, 1969)

Night of the Grizzly: Tolerable Western of rancher Stroller conquering all the dangers of Western life, even a very nasty bear. Cast includes Joseph Pevney, Clint Stroller, Martha Hyer, Keenan Wynn, Nancy Kulp, Ron Ely, Regis Toomey, and Jack Ela. (102 minutes, 1966)

The film itself is monotonous and grisly. Cast includes Christopher Lee, Maria Schell, Leo Genn, Maria Rohm, and Margaret Lee. (84 minutes, 1970)

Border Shootout: Ignorant rancher is made deputy in Arizona boundary town that's tired of aging sheriff Ford; however the townspeople's lynching of supposed rustlers brings about instant conflict. Here is an excellent Western plot from the Elmore Leonard novel that is wrecked by amateurish production. Cast includes Cody Glenn, Jeff Kaake, Glenn Ford, Elizabeth Rohovit, Michael Horse, Russell Todd, Michael Ansara, and Michael Forrest. (110 minutes, 1990)

Make sure you do your preparation and select the right CD to rehearse along with. It should have real instruments along with a real professional band.

You will want it to have a shuffle, a fast blues, a slow blues, etc. and it is essential that the players on the CD are in tune and stay in time (tempo). According to a recent report on TV viewership data gathered by NBC (NY Times, October 17, 2008), free Internet streaming is the most popular alternative to traditional television, accounting for roughly a quarter of total viewing based on field surveys of their TV episodes. Aside from streaming, paid downloads, VOD (video on demand) and mobile viewing were also assessed but their numbers were insignificant at best. The impressive amount of Internet streaming has indeed cast the writing on the wall for free TV on PC.

Actually, Internet TV is nothing new. It's just that supporting infrastructure had not been in its favor in the early days. Conditions have advanced by heaps by now: broadband access, power PCs, super-sized storage and open hardware, software and networking. The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Review

I think because of the massive amount of attention that is given to this album's so called "historical significance" that sometimes not enough attention is given to the music itself. I hope to correct that imbalance with this review which focuses entirely on the album's 13 tracks.

01. "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" - This opening track really sets the mood for the entire album. The song shifts styles abruptly just like the album does from song to song. And of course the crowd noise and the entire "Sgt. Pepper" concept are introduced here.

02. "With a Little Help from my Friends" - I know there are quite a few people who think that Joe Cocker really did the definitive version of this song, but I'm definitely not one of those people. I like Cocker's version, but the original contains the real magic to my ears.

03. "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" - One of the bands most famous songs. This is a great one to listen to in mono (you have to get The Beatles in Mono Box Set) because it sounds so much different in mono than it does in stereo. There's a lot more effect on the vocal in mono!

04. "Getting Better" - This may just be the song I most commonly think of when I think of the Sgt. Pepper album. I'm not quite sure why that's the case, but it is! To me this song defines the spirit of the album very well.

05. "Fixing a Hole" - I love this kind of more subtle psychedelia. And yes, this is a very psychedelic song. And how about those lyrics? Anyone who doesn't think McCartney could write lyrics should pay close attention to these.

06. "She's Leaving Home" - Another great reason to get The Beatles in Mono Box Set. This song sounds faster and higher (by a semitone) in the mono version. It's a treat to hear!

07. "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite" - I think my favorite part of this song is the cut up tape section where it sounds like sort of insane random carnival music.

08. "Within You Without You" - Speaking of "far out" how about we go all the way to India? Some people don't like this song because it doesn't fit with their preconceived notions of what music is supposed to sound like. To me this song is brilliant because of that very reason. We shouldn't limit ourselves.

09. "When I'm 64" - Some people don't seem to get how "tongue in cheek" this song is. McCartney loved to mess around with different musical styles in this way. In fact I think Ween sort of ripped off their whole shtick from Paul McCartney. Listen to McCartney's "fruity" songs (as George Harrison called them sometimes) from the perspective of Ween doing them and I think maybe they'll click.

11. "Lovely Rita" - I have to admit that tracks #10 and #11 are probably my least favorites on the album. But considering I quite like both of those tracks, that says a lot about how much I love this album.

11. "Good Morning Good Morning" - My least favorite song on the album. Yet I still think it's pretty great at times and it has some very interesting elements. I think that says a lot about how much I love this album.

12. "Sgt. Pepper's (Reprise)" - Rocks harder than the first version. I love how it ties the album together and it's brilliant how this closing version is "looser" just like a band may be looser at the end of a real show. And that's what the concept of this album was all about after all. The idea was that this album would "go on tour" rather than the band themselves.

13. "A Day in the Life" - In my opinion this is the best song ever written. An absolutely epic way to end the album. - 23806
