?A Look At Guitar Scales & Its Importance In Improvisations

By Mary Clark

Well, we have had a dry technical description of what a scale is ??" but the particular thing is that where is the music in it? Okay, in melodic terms, a scale can be represented as a palette of notes that you can choose from to put together chords, accompaniments, harmonies, melodies solos and just about everything. Look at it this way ??" you are in need to acquire any language depending upon your choice e.g. English before you can be a poet. Scales are the language of music, and there are a lot of different ways to put them together to keep things entertaining. If you have no understanding of scales you would be a bit like seeking to write a poem without employing real words - it could work and be very cool in some cases, but the chances would be much better if you stick to a normally understood medium, which is what scales/language are.

For further understanding - there are many kinds of scales - minor, major modes etc ??" think it as increasing your vocabulary and learning more ways of showing your thoughts.

Why Are They So Significant?

Andreas Segovia, the father of modern guitar playing has given nice information about the importance of scales. He maintained that in the shortest space of time most amount of technical ground can be covered through the proper learning of scales. And if you think about it, when you are learning scales you are:

1. Learning how to effectively play one note after another. 2. developing the dexterity of your fingers. 3. Make your ears habitual to listen which notes go together in what sequences. I.e. What notes go into what scales. (This is of supreme importance). 4. Providing you with the terrific memory of how the standard notes and tones go from one string to the next.

Genuinely you effectively restrict the amount of notes you play by learning to play in a scale. But, no doubt, this is what offers us with distinctive melodic structure. Youll be able to promptly choose something that suits the mood of the piece you are trying to write provided you learn what a wide range of scales sound like. This saves a lot of "fumbling about" in quest of notes in the long run.

Sometimes it's entertaining to "make up a scale" by picking a set of notes out of the 12 notes accessible for the purpose of more advanced exercise in practice. You'll usually find though that if you research the set of notes you've chosen, that there's probably already a scale which has those notes, but by studying some licks in this new scale, you can jump from something, for example minor pentatonic, into your new scale for a few seconds, before getting back. - 23806

Will Today's Video Games Become Tomorrow's Reality?

By Philip Woods

Video games sales have continued steadily even during this poor economy. Video game products have sold $1.7 billion dollars since the early part of 2008. This says a lot about the video gaming industry and their future. The public continues to purchase all the latest and greatest new releases of games and systems as quick as they are released.

The newest systems, including the PS3 and the Nintendo DS Lite, which is just a smaller adaptation of the DS, are a far cry from the beginning systems. They make the Magnavox Odyssey seem like a figment of the imagination. With the technology we have today, it is likely at some point in time the PS3 and DS Lite will suffer the same fate.

Playing video games is not just for kids anymore. There are million of adults of all ages playing Nintendo, PS3 and Xbox 360. This used to be mainly a pastime for the younger generation; males in particular. The graphics have a lot to do with the interest being shown in video games.

Speaking of graphics, the addition of motion sensitive controls is the latest in the works for video systems. The ultimate goal at the present is to remove the limits and focus on virtual reality. This is what many believe is the future of video games.

No longer just a game, but a virtual reality experience is what games hope to be. Very similar to the holodeck that you see on the Star Trek shows. Virtually interacting between characters in the game is being explored right now. It would be really neat to have our own personal halodeck that would create different scenarios for our personal enjoyment.

Limitations to creating a game of virtual reality is due to the fact of people not being able to move around while sitting n their living rooms. This is just a bump that is being studied and how they will work around it. One alternative that was found is using brain activity.

In May 2008, during a study they found that a monkey used its brain waves to control the robot's arm. The robot's arm was manipulated by brain waves that fed the monkey. With more research they found that the monkey can control the robot's arm while controlling its own arm.

The precursor to virtual reality games for the home is using controls that are motion sensitive. Wearing a headset and controlling actions through brain waves is the idea behind this. It's not improbable to happen in the near future. The speed of evolution within the gaming industry has been miraculous.

Games continue to become more and more realistic as time goes on. The price to create a motion sensitive gaming system is what will slow down the development. A company isn't going to go the route of developing a real expensive system, if the consumers won't be able or willing to purchase them. The price a consumer is willing to spend is what a company will determine to spend to develop the systems.

All indications today show game players are much more likely to play a game that can mock actions of real life rather than using a controller. The future of video gaming systems remains to be seen, but it will probably surprise many of us. - 23806
