A Well-liked American Writer's Books That Were Turned Into Movies

Since 1989, John Grisham has been a favorite American novelist. Focusing frequently on legal fiction, his books have sold over 250 million copies globally. At the time of this writing, he has written 17 legal fiction books with a further projected for November 2009, 4 non-legal fiction books and one non-fiction book. There have been 10 films made from his works, with 1 in the works.

The second tale from John Grisham became the 1st picture back in 1993. "The Firm" stars Tom Cruise, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Gene Hackman. It follows the storyline of a youthful Harvard Law School graduate as he begins working for a Memphis law firm with ties to the underground. "The Pelican Brief", the following movie from a Grisham work also came out in 1993. It starred Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington.

In 1994, "The Client" was released. In this movie a little boy by mistake witnesses a suicide and he is consequently chased by the mafia for what they think the dying man may have confided in him. "The Client" starred Susan Sarandon, Tommy Lee Jones and the late Brad Renfro.

Grisham's very first novel, and some may say his most excellent book, was "A Time To Kill". This storyline was made into a motion picture in 1996 and it introduced an up and coming new actor in the lead character, Matthew McConaughey. It also starred Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey. Also from the year 1996 was "The Chamber" starring Chris O'Donnell, Gene Hackman and Faye Dunaway.

In 1997, "The Rainmaker" starring Matt Damon as a rookie attorney who takes on the suit of a boy turned down for medical treatment by a powerful insurance company. In 1998, the only picture from Grisham that was based upon an unpublished manuscript was released, "The Gingerbread Man" starring Kenneth Branagh and Robert Downey, Jr.

Two of Grisham's non-legal fiction books have been made into movies, "A Painted House" in 2003 and "Christmas with the Kranks", starring Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis, which is adapted from the book "Skipping Christmas".

"The Runaway Jury" starring Dustin Hoffman, Gene Hackman, John Cusack and Rachel Weisz was released in 2003. The next show is planned for release in the year 2012. It is "The Associate", which was released as a novel in January 2009.

Grisham has absolutely been one of the most admired and productive novelists in the recent past. With 22 works out and an additional intended for November 2009, 10 movies and one more intended for 2012, he has never failed to entertain us.
