Their Dark Days Light Years goes back to their playful roots, but their last two albums have been much slower with a new feel. The Super Furry Animals don't have a problem trying out new sounds and keeping their amazing sense of humor through it all.
SFA is always looking for a great time it seems like. Dark Days Light Years makes you want to dance. Their music has been through everything it seems like from a range of dance themes to slower ballads and even to folk songs. This new album is more like a collection of singles than a uniform theme but is amazing none the less.
SFA is so unique they even use a erhu which is a two stringed Chinese instrument that is played with a bow. It is really cool how their entire album is more of a mix match of songs and themes. They have everything from glam to even folk songs which is amazing and definitely works for them and their style.
The next track, Moped Eyes, is pure pop. Following this track, SFA gives us a track that lets us know exactly what it feels like to go skiing in Switzerland in the late eighties while wearing bright neon ski bibs. Nick McCarthy, the guitarist from the band Franz Ferdinand, is a guest singer on this track and performs a rap in German! What can we say? SFA never fails to surprise and astound.
Dark Days Light Years is definitely the most groove oriented album that the SFA has released in years, and provides a much needed burst of impish humor and playfulness to anyone's playlist.
